Favorite Five Friday, February 13, 2015

February 14, 2015 by Kari @ She Thrifts 1 Comment

I skipped last week’s FFF because I didn’t feel like I had many sales worth mentioning (just a bunch of clothes, which are reliable sellers, but not what I find to be most fun).

Here are a few of my favorite sales from the last week:

These pants have been hanging around for months waiting to be listed.  They are NWT Old Navy.  My hesitation to list them was that they appear to have a maternity panel waist, but nowhere on the tags are they listed as maternity pants.  So, I finally listed them explaining just that, and whaddyaknow, they sold in five days.

Old Navy Linen Panel Waist Pants
Paid: $3? @ ys, Sold: $24.95 (in 5 days)

I will usually pick up sheet sets at yard sales (or 50% off day at consignment sales!) if they are new in the package and $5 or less.  While they aren’t always fast sellers, every set I’ve picked up has eventually sold for a decent profit.

Tommy Hilfiger Surf Board Sheet Set
Paid: $5? @ consignment sale, Best Offer Accepted: $35 (listed since May 2014)

I bought this at a rummage-type-sale just after Easter last year.  I had just sold some used Easter Thomas trains so I knew it would be a sure-seller . . . eventually.  Usually after 6 months or so I’ll add “Best Offer” to my listings, but in this case I didn’t because I was confident it would sell at full price before Easter rolled around again.

Thomas Easter Train Lot
Paid: $5 @ rummage sale, Sold: $39.95 (listed since April 2014)

I really like buying these Disney books, and I’ve sold several lots, but they are s-l-o-w to sell for a price that I’m happy with.   I only pick them up now if they’re still in like-new condition and only cost around a quarter.

24 Wonderful World of Disney Book Lot
Paid: ? @ various places, Sold: $44.95 (listed since Feb 2014)

I’ve also had three Bonanza sales recently (a lot for me within a week’s time).  The one below is my favorite, because it’s adorable.  I picked it up for $1.50 a year or two ago after Valentine’s Day, thinking I would give it to one of my boys the following year.  Then I came to my senses, and realized they already have way more stuffed animals than they know what do do with, and why should I add to that madness?

Valentine’s Day Dog Plush
Paid: $1.50 @ Walgreens, Sold: $19.30 (within a couple weeks of listing)

Happy Valentine’s Day!

My Funny Valentine

Remember back in October when I had the awesome sale that wasn’t?

Well, it sold again!

Adult Eeyore Costume
Paid: $5 at yard sale
Sold: $174.95 – shipping

Quick recap:

I bought the above costume for $5 last summer, and sold it just before Halloween for $174.95!  I happily shipped it off to its new owner . . . who had the wrong zip code listed on his account.  The costume ended up being returned to sender . . . after Halloween . . . and I ended up refunding the money.

Well, it sold last week for the same price, and the buyer sent this note:

Is it possible to include a note with the costume?
I would like to say " Happy Valentines! Love, Mom".
Thanks, xxx

That’s a rather generous Valentine’s Day gift!  I was momentarily concerned that she was going to ask me to mail the costume to a different address than was listed on her account, but nope, when I went to print out the shipping information it came up with her son’s info at Dartmouth.  (Another college boy!)  And the package shows as delivered this time, so we’re already in better shape than the last.

But I liked the below sale even better.

NWT Simba Broadway Musical Plush
Paid: $1.49 at Value Village
Sold: $15.95 – shipping

Because the buyer sent me this note after I e-mailed him that Simba was in the mail:

THANKS!!
It is going to be part of a Valentine’s present including tickets to see the Lion King musical, so timing was getting tight!

I am a HUGE theater lover, so that is my kind of Valentine’s gift!!!  I hope his Valentine appreciates it as much.

As for actual Valentine’s items? I only sold one:

My First Valentine’s Day Outfit + Bib
Paid: Maybe $1 at a yard sale?
Sold: $13.50 – shipping

I had several Valentine’s Day plush listed, but here they still sit.  Oh well.
