Love Lovey Love

March 21, 2018 by Kari @ She Thrifts 6 Comments

Soooo.  I used to send an e-mail to every buyer the day I shipped their item to let them know it was on the way.  Most of the time I would get no response or just a quick “thanks”.  But occasionally I would get a note back about why the buyer had purchased the item, like these below:

Thank you so much!!! We are moving from Alaska to Colorado and our 7 year old has had that blanket since he was born and the movers packed it and stuff won t arrive until mid June so your saving us

This is my sons night night blanket and when I sent him with his father this Christmas break daddy didn’t give it back and refuses to mail it. You’re a life saver!

Thank you! This exact blanket is my 4 year old’s special lovey. She lost it a few weeks ago…we have searched everywhere. She will be so happy to have it! 🙂

I just wanted to thank you so much for selling us this blanket and at such a reasonable price. My daughter is almost 5 and has autism. She’s had her sisters hand me down twiddliwinks (monkey/giraffes) that is now almost 10 years old. It had holes and was no longer soft or even pink/purple mostly just purple, but it was her favorite. This blanket made her smile so big. Thank you again!

Received the monkey yesterday. Bought one for my five year old granddaughter when she was 3 months old and it goes everywhere with her. Now her three year old sister tries to take it from her and I have had to sew it up multiple times so I decided to get her one, and almost gave up looking before I found yours for sale. A very big thanks

Awww so sweet. Can not wait. We lost this in a fire…I was browsing ebay when I found it. My 4 year old can not wait 😉

Thank you for accepting my offer. I am a proud Mom to 9 stray & feral cats & kittens. This mug is purr-fect!

Thank you so much. Years ago I donated my two girls “junk” toys and now I feel so guilty as these simple toys really were their favorite.  I am trying so hard to find replacements as a surprise to my now grown daughters for their kids (kids in a few years).

But here is the e-mail that I get a couple times a year or so that makes me cringe.  When a cute, loveable plush is about to get destroyed I would rather not know.

This is the 3rd Dewie that I have purchased for my Yorkie! He is infatuated with (her) and plays with it until it falls apart! He is only 2 1/2 years old, so I am afraid there will be many, many more Dewie’s in our future! LOL! Thanks!

Ugh!!  Poor Dewie!

You may have noticed that I wrote that I “used to” e-mail the buyers when an item was shipped.  Somewhere around the holidays I just got so busy that sending the e-mails dropped off my priority list and it stopped happening.  And I never got back to doing it.  But when I was looking back through my draft posts I found this one where I had been compiling the lovey love.  It almost makes me want to prioritize sending the e-mails again … maybe.

Inventory Inventoried + February Sales

March 28, 2016 by Kari @ She Thrifts 6 Comments

It has been a crazy couple months!  Busy busy.  In Dec/Jan/Feb I was given 2000 free bonus listings each month, so I spent quite a bit of time going through old inventory, ending listings, “selling as similar”, updating prices, adding best offer, as well as just tossing a few items in the donate pile.  I didn’t get a lot of new items listed in February, but I did make it through my dozens of totes of active inventory.  So, yay for that.

I had some decent sales this month too, including a couple mugs:

snow white mugholly hobbie mug
I probably paid around $3/each for them, and they both had a selling price of $34.95.  Holly Hobbie had been listed since July 2015, and the Snow White Mug since 2013!!

I had a few plush sales.

I couldn’t believe I found this guy as the half-off color at GW!

little mermaid dog plush
Little Mermaid Dog
Paid: $0.99 @ GW, Sold $34.95 (listed since December 2015)

mervyns gorilla plushMervyn’s Floppy Friends Gorilla Plush
Paid: $3.99 @ GW, Sold: $42.95 (17 days after listed)

I had the Build-A-Bear Disney princess dresses listed for quite awhile with no takers.  I found the princess bear at VV after the dresses had been listed for a few months and added it to the lot (keeping the price the same) and it finally sold.

babw princessBABW Disney bear, 5 dresses, tiara, shoes, etc.
Paid: $12ish total?, Sold: $49.95 (listed since April 2015)

While plush will always be my favorite thing to sell, my most profitable sales now come from clothes.  I like selling coats, although the margins on them aren’t usually as good because they cost more to ship.

jones ny coat
Jones New York Jacket
Paid: $2 @ VV, Sold: $29.95 (17 days after listed)

tahari trench
Tahari Coat
Paid: $2 @ VV, Sold: $34.95 (11 days after listed)

monaco coat
Club Monaco Jacket
Paid: 2 @ VV, Sold: $39.95 (15 days after listed)

And some more clothes:

I think this is only the second St. John item I have ever come across.  I probably priced it too low because it sold in less than a day.

st john tank
Paid: $2 @ VV, Sold: $29.95

lei jumpsuit
LEI Denim Jumpsuit
Paid: $2 @ VV, Sold: 34.95 (listed since December 2015)

tommy overalls
Tommy Hilfiger women’s overalls
Paid: $2 @ VV, Sold: $49.95 (listed since January 2016)

I also sold a bunch of clothes in the $20-$25 price range.
The most interesting of which was this jacket:

picasso jacketNWT Picasso Faces Jacket
Paid: $2 @ VV, Sold $24.95 (19 days after listed)

What has been selling recently for you?  Do tell!

Favorite Five Friday, 6/26/15

June 26, 2015 by Kari @ She Thrifts 4 Comments

It’s been awhile since I’ve shared any sales.  Here are a few of my favorites from the last week or so.

I’ve actually sold a few mugs recently!  Which is surprising since I’ve almost completely stopped buying them.  I want to be able to list them for at least $25, and I don’t often find mugs worth that much.

7 11Team 7-Eleven Mug
Paid: $2ish @ VV, Sold: $34.95 (listed since September, 2014)

I’ve also sold several new costumes in the last week or two.  I bought a BUNCH on clearance after Halloween.  I know I’ll have to wait almost a year to sell most of them, but when I can buy them at 90% off I can’t pass them up.  I love to sell costumes!  And, as this shows, they do sell all year long.

hulk costumeNEW Boys Incredible Hulk Costume
Paid: $2 @ post Halloween clearance sale, Sold: $39.95

This was a timely find since the new movie just came out.  I found it at a yard sale last weekend.

130_4916Jurassic Park (The Lost World) T-Rex Puppet
Paid: $0.50 @ ys, Sold: $39.95 (1 day after listed)

Gotta love Lisa Frank.  I think I listed this one too low, because it took just an hour or two to sell . . . in the middle of the night.  (I was up late listing.)

130_4585Lisa Frank zippered binder
Paid: $3.99 @ VV, Sold: $49.95 (same day as listed)

And last but not least, the Burd has already sold!  In addition to the purchase price, the buyer paid almost $50 for priority international shipping.

130_4760“Burd” Puppet
Paid: $5.00 @ ys, Sold: $99.95 (3 days after listed)

Happy sales to you!

Customer Stories: Father’s Day Edition

June 21, 2015 by Kari @ She Thrifts 5 Comments

I always send an e-mail to my buyers after I’ve dropped their packages off at the Post Office.  I love hearing back from some of them as to why they purchased their items.

Y2K mugI wanted to thank you for offering this item. My husband and I went through the Y2K scare. I had bought him this coffee mug prior to the scare. He loved that mug and it was the ONLY cup he used. When he used the cup, he would tell my son of all the craziness that went on during that time period. Well, my son accidentally broke this beloved cup when he was 7. He felt HORRIBLE! I’ve literally been looking for a replacement for 10 years. My son will present it to his father this Father’s Day. Thank you again!

TY lion lovey
Thank you so much, My 6yr old had the exact one. She is attached to it, sleeps with it & takes it everywhere! She lost it a week ago! When I saw u had one I almost cried with joy!

I am headed to build a bear today to purchase shirts for the dinos and then to hobby lobby to get iron ons that say I am the big brother and another that says, I am the little brother and then taking them to the hospital on the 3rd, when #2 will be born through c section, so your upgrade on shipping is a HUGE blessing to me. Thank you so much. I am excited to get them.

130_0367 (12)Thanks.  About 25 years ago while visiting a National Park, my daughter really wanted me to buy her this cap.  I didn’t and really regretted it when she would mention it over the years.  Now I finally bought it for her!

Favorite Five Friday, 3/13/15

March 14, 2015 by Kari @ She Thrifts 3 Comments

I’ve finally had a few sales worth reporting.  I’m slowly getting my eBay listing rhythm back, and my sales are starting to pick up again.

I had just added Best Offer to this listing during my inventorying, but it still sold at full price.

little bear fffLittle Bear Plush
Paid: $2ish @ Value Village, Sold: $24.95 (listed since March, 2014)

I added Best Offer to this plush when I was inventorying, and got a decent offer a week or two later.

130_0580 (4)Steiff Golden Labrador Plush Paid: $0.50 @ ys,
Best Offer Accepted: $40.00 (listed since September, 2014)

I had this mug listed for forEVer.  I think I picked it up the first summer I started eBaying, and I’m pretty sure I accepted a best offer on it at some point, and the buyer never paid.  If I had gotten as far as the mugs when inventorying I would have dropped the price really low just to get rid of it.  Out of the blue it sold at full price!

history channel mug fffHistory Channel Black Mug
Paid: ? @ ys, Sold: $34.99 (listed since 2013?)

I also dropped the price on this while inventorying last month.

carpenters plush fffPilot Bear In Airplane Plush Plays Carpenters Top of the World Song
Paid: $1ish? @ ys?, Sold: $49.95 (listed since June, 2014)

Stay tuned for my fifth favorite sale of the week, which I will be sharing as a BOLO on Sunday.

What was your favorite sale this week?

Recent Quick Flips + Rummage Sale L♥ve

April 15, 2014 by Kari @ She Thrifts 6 Comments

I found a bunch of goodies at a rummage sale over the weekend, and am still working my way through it all getting it listed.  But, I’ve already had two of my rummage sale items sell, making back almost half of what I spent that day, and I have SO many more items from that haul yet to sell.

Worn Brand Men’s Corduroy Pants
Paid: $2 @ rummage sale, Sold: $24.95 (within a couple hours)
NWT Kohl’s Wocket Plush
Paid: $0.50 @ rummage sale, Sold: $14.95 (day after listed)

And here are a few more fairly quick flips:

Annie Little Einsteins Bean Bag Plush
Paid: $1.50 @ local consignment store, Sold: $14.95 (6 days later)

I love buying and selling Dr. Seuss book lots, but this was a good reminder that the board book lots don’t sell for as much as the hardcover book lots do.  My profit on this sale was really low.

Dr. Seuss Board Book Lot
Paid: Around $4, Sold: $14.95 (8 days later)

And I think I should have priced a little higher on this one.

Mini Lalaloopsy Treehouse Set
Paid: $8? from FB ys site, Sold: $39.95 (day after listed)

A couple weeks ago I happened across a yard sale on the way home from my
son’s school.  They were selling all shirts for $0.25 and all pants for $0.50.

Women’s Neeso Camo Pants
Paid: $0.50 @ ys, Sold: $14.95 (17 days later)

I love finding these “train conductor” style overalls.

OshKosh striped “train conductor” overalls
Paid: $0.50 @ ys, Sold: $15.95 (4 days later)

I thought these were really cute!

GS115 Distressed Jeans, Size 3T
Paid: $0.50 @ ys, Sold: $19.95 (7 days later)
Electric Purple Fit Flops
Paid: $5.99 @ VV, Sold: $64.95 + $25 shipping to Australia (3 days later)
Baby Blue Disneyland Mug
Paid: $2.99 @ GW, Sold: $29.95 (8 days later)

How have your sales been this month?  April has been a bit weird for me sales-wise.  It started off busy, and then slowed down to almost nothing for several days, then picked back up to normal yesterday.  Here’s hoping the sales continue!

BOLO ~ Big Hug Mug

March 23, 2014 by Kari @ She Thrifts 5 Comments

**Photo borrowed from ended eBay listing**

Anybody watch True Detective on HBO?  If you do, you might recognize the above mug.  It is used by “Rust”, the character played by Matthew McConaughey.  This is a vintage FTD mug, thus, not easy to find.  Which means, of course, that they are now selling for good money on eBay – as high as $100 per mug!  Check it out HERE.

Mug experts ~ is there a name for this?

November 24, 2013 by Kari @ She Thrifts 4 Comments

I picked this mug up at a yard sale at the end of the summer.  I am listing it today, and am having a hard time coming up with a good way to describe what’s going on here.  There’s a star-shaped “hole” through the middle of a mug.  Is this a thing?  Is there a word for this?

Missing Package, Round 3

August 15, 2012 by Kari @ She Thrifts 4 Comments

Again?  A third package has now gone missing.
Package #1 was this mug:
The buyer said it was never delivered, and blamed her Post Office, citing multiple delivery issues.  She told me she did not expect me to refund her money, but I ended up refunding it anyway, less shipping.
 Here’s package #2:
I waited a couple days after the buyer notified me of the issue, hoping it would just resolve itself.  It didn’t.  I ended up calling the USPS 1-800 number.  The USPS rep was nice enough, said they would look into it.  I called on a Friday, and the rep said I would get a call back by the following Tuesday morning.  The package was well over a week late at that point.  But, it was found somewhere, because by the time I got the follow-up phone call the package had been delivered.  No idea where the hang up was, but it was kind of an “all’s well that ends well” scenario.
Today I got an e-mail about Package #3:
This item shows it was delivered August 11th.  Here is the buyer’s e-mail:

I just checked the tracking number and it shows that the item was delivered on Aug. 11 at 9:15 am. We were not home until that evening but saw no package at our home. do you have any additional information regarding the shipment of the item?
Of course, I don’t have any additional information.  I just know what she knows.  I looked at the FAQs on the USPS website, and e-mailed her back with some info from it, including their 1-800 number, and asked if she had any family members that might have picked it up and forgotten to tell her, or nearby neighbors it might have been delivered to in error, etc, etc.
So am I just “lucky” with all these missing or delayed packages?   Anyone else have issues similar to these?  Or a policy with which to handle them?  Anyone know if eBay still considers us responsible for these packages, once the status shows delivered?
If I end up refunding the money for the Care Bear I am probably out less than $3 including shipping, so it’s not the end of the world . . . mostly just annoying . . . gripe, gripe, complain, complain.
