When eBay is more than.

October 13, 2015 by Kari @ She Thrifts 1 Comment

More than a place to sell stuff.  More than a place to make a little extra money or make a living.  Sometimes it can make a difference to someone in ways you would never imagine.

Most of you probably already know that I e-mail my buyers after their packages have shipped to let them know they are on their way (this is mostly self-serving because I ship quickly and like to emphasize the point).  I often get thank you e-mails back, and some include why a buyer has purchased this or that, and I will share some of those stories every six months or so in a post on my blog.  I decided this one deserved a post of its own.

I’ve always been fascinated by the idea of the butterfly effect, and I think of my packages being sent all over the country or sometimes the world, and the ripples they make in the lives of other people.  I love hearing and knowing about how seemingly simple items can bring such joy.

kaa

Hello, I am the person that bought your snake rattle.  Just wanted you to know who it was bought for…my son, he is 21, but has a disease called  Mitochondrial disease—he cannot walk or talk and is severely developmentally delayed, has a g-tube and seizures.  When he was about 3, his Grandma bought him that snake from the Disney store, mostly because he could actually hold it and liked the little rattle noise it made, we kept it with him and even went to bed with him.  She was my husband’s mother, very sadly she passed away from breast cancer 15 years ago.  That snake has been come so worn out from him—it came with him to many hospital visits over the years.  (I would bring it, because if he reached out to grab it, I knew he was getting better and would be ok).

The other day I noticed the snakes head was about to come off and the hole by the eyes was getting bigger—I have had it sewn up a few times but knew there wasn’t much left to hold it together.  So, I decided to go to the internet (I am not a very good computer person) and that is how I found you!  I couldn’t believe my eyes…so your snake is going to a very good home and will keep Grandma’s memory alive for many more years!
(I would send you a picture of what our snake looks like—but I don’t really know how to do that—my other boys always make fun of me for my ‘lack’ of computer skills)
Hope you don’t mind that I shared our story with you———

Heartwarming to know we can bring this kind of happiness to our buyers.  Makes you wonder how many stories like this are out there that we never even hear about.

As a side note, this is Kaa, the snake from the Jungle Book, which is worth a second look if you ever come across one.  Check out some completeds here.

Customer Stories: Father’s Day Edition

June 21, 2015 by Kari @ She Thrifts 5 Comments

I always send an e-mail to my buyers after I’ve dropped their packages off at the Post Office.  I love hearing back from some of them as to why they purchased their items.

Y2K mugI wanted to thank you for offering this item. My husband and I went through the Y2K scare. I had bought him this coffee mug prior to the scare. He loved that mug and it was the ONLY cup he used. When he used the cup, he would tell my son of all the craziness that went on during that time period. Well, my son accidentally broke this beloved cup when he was 7. He felt HORRIBLE! I’ve literally been looking for a replacement for 10 years. My son will present it to his father this Father’s Day. Thank you again!

Customer Stories

September 8, 2014 by Kari @ She Thrifts 7 Comments

Here for your enjoyment is the next installment of customer stories (mostly made up of messages I received from buyers in response to an e-mail I sent letting them know that their package had been shipped).

I appreciate it. I happen to work in a school as a secretary and I put this set on the front counter as a display, everyone who has come in over the summer has commented how adorable it is. Can’t wait for everyone to see it on the 1st day back to school next week.
This is a replacement for my son’s that he lost 😉 thank you!
Thanks for letting me know! Very excited to have found this one. 🙂
It looks like one my real horses. Thanks!
Thank you very much. :0). Sure fire way for us to have known we were going to have
another kido is when we gave away all the baby stuff. It begins again haha.
Thank you! I’ll let you know when it arrives. I bought a claw foot iron base (Rand McNally, I think) a few weeks back on line and it takes a 6″ globe. I know it is the wrong age, but it will look great on the den bookshelves.
Thank you. I am a Big Time dog lover and Scooby Doo’s oldest and biggest fan!
I collect anything and everything with Scooby Doo on it.
Awesome! Thank you 🙂
We’re excited to add it to our baby girl’s soft book collection
wow, thank you soo much. got twin boys so I will have M-F covered!
THANK YOU!!! And thank you SO much for working with me on the price!
We had this book in paperback but it has had so much use from my 1st born that
it completely came apart. It is my second son’s favorite as well so I wanted to replace it.
They will both be so happy! 🙂
Thank you! I’m looking forward to playing with these with our grandchildren!
Have a great day!
The sweater arrived, and it’s beautiful !! Not even close to an Ugly Sweater !!
Love it, it fits perfect, and I look forward to wearing it this winter ! Thank you !
Thank you so much! My sister is going to love him!
She is 71 and currently carries a moose backpack, as her purse,
but she is a huge Eeyore fan. Thank you for having him!
Thank you so much! You don’t have any idea how much this mug means to me. I took a 3 month road trip around America in 2012 and wound up in the Grand Canyon where i purchased this beautiful mug. I enjoyed it all the way to San Diego where I accidentally knocked it out of my van into the parking lot at the beach. It is so hard to find a GOOD “4 finger handled mug” in the first place and I’ve been searching for this very mug ever since, but now you have made me so very happy. This mug will never leave my house! Can’t wait!!! Thanks again!

Kind Customer + Other Stories

March 21, 2014 by Kari @ She Thrifts 8 Comments

Every day after I’ve shipped out my items I send an e-mail to that day’s buyers to let them know their packages are in the mail.  I will often get a quick “thank you” in response, but sometimes I get a little more.  The above sale got to me – I believe the buyer was in Alaska, and I decided to pay an extra couple dollars to ship it Priority instead of Parcel.  When I sent his “your item was shipped” message I mentioned that I had upgraded the shipping to Priority and that it should arrive more quickly.  This was his response:

Thank you  Happy to pay the difference if you send me an invoice personally or via paypal. For my 84 year old Alzheimers mother

Warm fuzzies.  What a kind person, to both me and his mother.  (I sent him a note back saying I was happy to do it, no additional charge, but thank you.)

And here are a few more sales that came with a bit of a story:

Thank you.  We have been looking for one.  One of our Dachshunds has had one since she was a puppy, and takes it everywhere with her (5 years now) We call it her boyfriend.  The one she has has been abused by a couple of our other Dachsies, so we have wanted to replace it, since it is starting to look like Frankenweenie it has been sewn and patched so much.  Hope she likes this replacement as much.
Thank you. Long story on why we need thumper, but we are glad you had one!
Saving the day for a distraught daughter! Lets just say our dog, took care of the old thumper.
I use to purchase Folkmanis puppets for the kids, now my kids are grown,
and I purchase them for the dogs. ha They love to play with them.
I am sure they will love the skunk, since we had a skunk in our back yard several times this summer.
Out of 3 dogs, only 1 got sprayed.
My daughter is going to England on Monday to visit her boyfriend
and they wear the sweaters Christmas Eve…
You are a lifesaver, I bought theses for my 7 niece
and nephews and could not find an e, thanks
Thanks so much, it arrived today and it works great!!
My little guy’s physical therapist has this toy and he absolutely loves it.
So glad I found one for him to have at home too.
Thank you for this! I am volunteering to tell stories. This is my sidekick. :).
I am sewing a cape on it to be Beavie Wonder, the wondrous beaver.

I was tempted to ask for a photo of the Beavie Wonder cape.  Reminds me of the gal who made the raspberry hat.  I love hearing about where my packages are headed!
